I’ve heard about Taobao.com long time before I moved to China. I knew that it’s some kind of Chinese version of eBay or Amazon, but I never really have a chance to buy something from it. The reason was, I couldn’t speak Chinese, and I wasn’t live in China (they didn’t have Taobao global back then).
When I moved to China three years ago. My Chinese friend told me that she bought many cheap clothes and bags from taobao. My question was, “Yes, the price is cheap, how about the quality?”. The answer was, you need to be careful when you pick the product. Sometimes products that too cheap means it’s fake or have a bad quality. Make sure you check on the seller’s ratings and feedback from their buyers. The higher their ratings and more positive comments they have, it means they are more reliable. I will talking about Taobao seller’s rating next time 😀 Another thing is, most seller will offer 7 days no reason return guarantee. That means, should you don’t like the goods after you received it you can return it to the seller. Awesome! But so far, I never return any product because I don’t like them. If there were defects on the product, then I will return it.
So, what kind of products that available on Taobao? Taobao have wide range of product selections, from clothing, food, electronics, household products, automotive, plane tickets, vacation voucher, fake boyfriend/girlfriend service (whatttt?!), and many other things you can think of! You just need to search for it! lol
My Chinese is so poor. So for shopping on Taobao, I use Google Chrome browser. They have a web translation service that will automatically translate the web from Chinese to English, awesome right? You can download Google Chrome browser for PC here and for mobile here
Taobao received payment by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, JCB), Alipay (Chinese version of PayPal), and any Chinese Bank account.
Taobao makes my life much easier as a foreigner who barely able to speak Chinese :p I ordered many things, from cat food, imported kitchen ingredients, clothes, bags, books, DVDs, mobile phone and tablet, household equipment.. almost everything! Except groceries… lol
Well, what can I say? I just love Taobao!
